You've heard the phrase "you get what you pay for" a thousand times, and so far in your life, you've found it to be mostly true. Now, though, you're looking at a new piece of software and wondering if it's the same. Is it worth your time to try out cheap software? Well, as usual, I'm here to question tradition and say that this is one case where the saying doesn't hold up. Yes, that's the answer. You can get good software for a very low price.
So no...
So I guess I have to say something now, don't I? So, here's how it works: software is digital information that can be traded over the Internet. You're right! I said the WWW. So we're not talking about software made by software engineers who went to top engineering schools, are still thousands of dollars in debt because of it, and have to pay $1200 a month to live in an efficiency with one bedroom. No, I'm talking about geniuses all over the world who didn't go to college but are just as good as their American counterparts who did go to college but don't expect or need to be paid a quarter as much. That's right, you can give them what amounts to a six-figure salary in the US for them, but it's cheap for you. These are the best deals, don't you think? Everyone is happy with the deal and feels like they came out on top.
So how do you get in touch with these foreign programmers to get cheap software? Well, of course, on the Internet! There are websites where you can post jobs and any programmer can try to do them. If you like what they do, you can work out a deal to pay them. You'll also want to keep working with them if they did a good job on the first job, which is usually a sort of "interview" to see how good they are. The Internet makes it easy to talk to people and send money to them in a way that is safe for both parties.
Now you have to deal with some problems. First, you need to get good at explaining what you want. Second, you want to make sure they are testing their work and giving you a "draught" of the software that is mostly finished. Third, you want to be able to talk to them in your language, and you want them to be able to communicate with you well enough to make the deals go smoothly. Third, give these guys what they want, and they will come back for more. You are giving them a great chance to find work, and they will stay loyal to you by giving you cheap software that is better than what you paid for it.
