Tickets for Rock Star Supernova are the latest attempt to get a supergroup to work together and make money. Even though almost every other supergroup in history has been praised by critics, none of them have really sold a lot of records. But Rock Star Supernova is off to a good start because they were formed in the open, and millions of people know what the project is about. We'll look at how they came together and try to figure out what to expect from rock's newest supergroup.
Formation
The members of Rock Star Supernova met in a very public way. All of the original band members are well-known all over the world. Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, Jason Newsted of Metallica, and Gilby Clarke of Guns N' Roses are all in the band. Their skills made a full band except for one thing: they didn't have a lead singer.
The band decided to use the popularity of their names to fill out their lineup. So, their search for a front man became the subject of a reality show on CBS in 2006. Rock Star was an elimination contest that went on for a whole season. Singers auditioned for more than two months, and each week, the contestants were cut down to fewer and fewer.
In September 2006, the band made its choice with the help of online votes from people who watched the show. Lukas Rossi was chosen because he had sung with smaller bands before but had never made it big. He did, for sure, because of this contest.
Anticipation
Fans can't wait to get their hands on Rock Star Supernova tickets, and when their first album comes out, they'll be waiting at record stores all over the world. Their first two singles, "Be Yourself and 5 Other Cliches" and "It's All Love," are already getting a lot of airplay on radio stations all over the United States.
But because of a recent change, fans will have to wait a little longer to see the new supergroup live. In October of 2006, Newsted hurt himself when he tried to catch a bass amp head that was falling during a rehearsal. Because of the accident, Newsted tore his bicep and tore up his shoulder. Because of these injuries, Newsted won't be able to play for nine months.
In the meantime, the band has added former Black Crowes bassist Johnny Colt as a temporary replacement. The band will continue to play and record until Newsted can return to the lineup. When everything comes together, though, with all the hype and talent, Rock Star Supernova tickets will be a chance to see what we think will be one of the most successful bands of all time.
