Langkawi, an island in Malaysia, is known as one of the world's best places for a honeymoon "s best places to see nature, with rainforests that are a million years old, ancient mountains that are breathtaking, and beautiful animals like hornbills, monitor lizards, monkeys, and rare species like the colugo.
The island has a modern cable car, a leading international Regatta, a top world bicycle race, and a brand-new Four Seasons resort that looks like it will become Asia's top honeymoon spot.
The exciting news is that people from Langkawi can now visit the nearby Tarutao National Park in Thailand. This park looks like the dreamy Bounty Bar commercial paradise, with azure waters, white sand beaches, and more. Small boats from Satun Island can take you to Tarutao for six months of the year, but a new ferry service from Langkawi will make this marine paradise accessible all year long.
Divers all over the world know that Ko Lipe, Ko Adang, Ko Tarutao, and the other 50 islands that make up the Tarutao National park in Thailand are a dream destination that is hard to get to. They have kilometres of colourful coral, white powder sand beaches, dozens of world-class scuba diving sites, and a lot of amazing underwater life, like dolphins, whale sharks, manta, migrating whales, turtles, and more.
Langkawi visitors can now enjoy this world-class marine playground all year long, thanks to a new ferry service that began on June 8, 2005. The ferry service is possible because the Thai and Malaysian governments worked together and because a Thai consulate opened last month in Langkawi.
From Langkawi, day trips to the national park will run three times a week, and more often during peak season. The daytrips include the one-hour ferry ride, island-hopping by speedboat, snorkel gear, and a buffet lunch with drinks.
Special trips include scuba diving with two dives, catch-and-release game fishing, and a guided ecotour of the island "s coral reefs and forests with a trained naturalist.
