Do you write on your own time or are you interested in doing so? Then you might want to publish your writing on a blog. Even though it's hard for many freelance writers to think about putting their work out there for free, there are three ways you can make money with a blog.
First, you can just put all of your work on a blog and call it a day (or blogs if you write in more than one area). The search engines will eat up all of the fresh, original content on your blog's many pages and send good, targeted traffic to your site. You can make money from this traffic by selling ads, using pay-per-click or pay-per-lead advertising services, or promoting affiliate programmes and products. Pay-per-click or affiliate programmes are probably the easiest way to go if you just want to focus on your writing and your audience.
You can put your writing in your own free ezine, newsletter, ebook, or other informational product and promote it on your blog. You can still make money through advertising or affiliate programmes, but the extra informational products give you even more ways to make money.
You can publish your own ezine, newsletter, ebook, or other informational product that can only be bought and then use your free blog to collect leads and promote these products. Again, you can still make money on your blog through advertising and affiliate programmes in addition to the money you make from sales.
You can make a good living by giving away your writing, but if you don't want to, you can choose to only give away a small amount and only share the rest of your work with people who pay you. In either case, you will have full power and control over the work you publish, and you will get all the money from your own hard work and talent.
Freelance writers should think about self-publishing using one of these three ways to make money with a blog.
