GSA auctions have been around for a while, even though you may not have heard of them. They are a great place to get a great deal on a car.
General Service Administration is what GSA stands for.
It is a US government agency whose job, according to its acting director David Bibbs, is "to help other US government agencies better serve the public by meeting their needs for products and services and by making it easier for the public to get information and services from the government."
Auto auctions are one of the things they do.
Why then does GSA sell cars?
GSA buys a lot of vehicles at once and then rents them out to other government agencies. When the lease is up, these cars are sold to the public at GSA auctions. This lets the GSA get some of its money back and put it toward buying more cars.
Why buying a car at a GSA auction is a good idea:
- ) The US government takes care of vehicles in general. These cars aren't customised or taken back by the government.
- ) Trucks, cars, SUVs, police cars, buses, and many other kinds of vehicles are made in the United States (approximately 40,000 vehicles to choose from per year)
- ) Most cars don't get a lot of miles
- ) Most cars are sold at or near wholesale prices, and buyers don't have to pay any extra fees.
- ) Most cars are between 3 and 5 years old
Overall, GSA public auctions are a great place to find a great used car at a great price.
