I just found out about another way to make a little extra cash. This can be done by filling out surveys for different businesses that want to learn more about their customers or potential customers. You might think, like I did, that this isn't worth your time or effort, but you might be surprised by how much these companies are willing to pay when you find out.
A friend of my step-daughters came over to play at our house a few days ago. They are both twelve and have known each other since they were in elementary school. This friend also came to our house for dinner, and while she was eating, she started a very interesting conversation at the table. She asked my stepdaughter if she would like to join her in a survey about children's banking.
I started to ask this girl, whose name is Emma, what it would take. Emma said that a woman would come to her house on Saturday morning and ask her a number of questions about banking, such as who she banks with and how much money she tries to save at age 12. She went on to say that the meeting would last about an hour and a half and pay her GBP20. If she also kept some kind of journal for a week, she would get another GBP 10.
My stepdaughter was suddenly very interested and asked if she could go, too. I told her that she could.
Emma then told our family that she often filled out these surveys and that a friend of her mom's had told her about them. She said that, on average, she made about GBP100 a month by taking part in and filling out these surveys, which isn't bad for a 12-year-old. I asked her if I could also go around on Saturday as a joke. Emma told me that this survey was only for kids in school, but that her parents often took part in other surveys, and she would let me know when the next one was.
On Saturday, I brought my stepdaughter to Emma's house. While I was waiting for the meeting to end, I talked to her parents. Then, her parents told me about their own experiences with taking surveys. They said that even though the money isn't a lot, it's a lot for what you have to do. They also said that it helped them pay a number of bills each month.
My stepdaughter had a great time at the meeting and kissed her GBP20 on the way out. It's better than washing your car, she told me with a big smile.
