When you buy a new car, you have to think about a lot of things. Most will be about the car itself, like what model to buy, what options to add, and how much the car will cost. But there is always one thing you should check first, and that is who you are buying the car from.
Dealers
Who you buy the car from, what kind of person they are, and how they do business and treat customers may be more important than the car itself. No matter what kind of car you buy, there's always a chance that something will go wrong and you'll have to call the dealer to fix it. If the dealer is honest and takes pride in making his customers happy, your problem will be fixed quickly and you'll be driving your new car and enjoying it in no time. If, on the other hand, he only cares about getting paid and doesn't want anything else to do with you, that could be a big problem.
Be Aware
If you are calling several dealers to find out if a certain model is in stock, use the time on the phone to try to get a feel for the dealer. Ask yourself, "Is this someone with whom I want to do business?" If not, call a different dealer.
If the salesperson is rude or pushy, you might want to think about going somewhere else. If you aren't completely comfortable in the environment, you're more likely to buy a car you don't want, you won't have a chance to weigh all the pros and cons, and you won't want to deal with the seller again if you have a problem.
But if the dealer is relaxed and open, listens to your thoughts and needs, and tries to help you find the car you want, there is a much better chance that you will leave with a car you really want and won't be pushed into making a quick purchase.
Every purchase is based on some kind of personal relationship between the buyer and the seller, and there has to be some trust for the deal to go through. So, when you're thinking about the car you want, the financing, the insurance, and all the other things that come with buying a new car, add the salesperson to your list and make sure you're working with someone you trust and feel comfortable with.
