With the launch of its Hong Kong-London route last October, Oasis Hong Kong became the first low-cost long-haul airline in the world. Today, it started a new long-haul route, making it the first low-cost long-haul airline in the world.
Six days a week, people can take an Oasis flight from Hong Kong International Airport that takes 12 hours and doesn't stop.
To help their customers who are going to Canada, Oasis Hong Kong bought three more Boeing 747-400s from All Nippon Airways (ANA) and hired 200 more people to work in the cockpit and in the cabin.
Stephen Miller, the CEO of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, said in a press release from the company: "People from Hong Kong want to go to Vancouver for both business and pleasure, so there is a lot of demand for flights to Vancouver from Hong Kong. We're happy to be able to meet the needs of our customers by giving them this great service."
Oasis is a great value because their economy class return tickets start at only HK$3,980 (US$509) and their business class return tickets start at only HK$18,000 (US$2,303).
Prices for tickets can be found on their website, and they are almost 50 percent less than what their main competitor charges.
The airline also promises that 10 percent of economy class seats on every flight will be sold for HK$1,990 ($255) one way for at least a year.
The route to Vancouver is expected to be as successful as Oasis's first international destination, London. One-way tickets for the Vancouver route start at HK$1,000 ($128). The low-cost airline has taken more than 100,000 people on that route so far.
Miller said that most of the people who took the London flights had good things to say.
"Our customers have given us great feedback. We're thankful that the people of Hong Kong have really welcomed us "he said.
"The praise we've gotten, especially from business travellers, has given us the confidence to bring the same high-quality products and service to the long-awaited route to Vancouver."
Now that it's been open for eight months, Oasis Hong Kong is getting a lot of attention from travellers around the world. This is because it offers services that aren't usually found on budget airlines, such as online check-in, free hot meals, and personal entertainment on board.
Fans call Oasis Hong Kong "a very solid airline with much better service than short-haul budget airlines" and praise its "fantastic value" and "friendly cabin crew." A travel blog calls it "the best travel newcomer of 2006."
Over the next five years, Oasis Hong Kong plans to fly to more major airport hubs in Europe and North America, such as Milan and Berlin in Europe and Chicago and San Francisco in the United States.
It seems like the world is getting easier to get to in a way that is incredibly cheap.
