Often on a plane I think that credit card rewards are the most exciting of all the rewards programmes. It says, "I'm so cool that my credit card company pays for me to go places!" Ha! Your company only gave you a spice grinder and a new blender. I laugh at you, fool!'
Okay, maybe not exactly like that, but you get the idea. Frequent flyer cards are the kings of reward offers, the sultans of specialty cards, and the Cadillacs of credit cards. Please send me an email if you know of a better deal than getting a vacation for using a credit card. From where I'm sitting, it seems like a pretty sweet deal.
They work a lot like other cards that give rewards. There is a ratio between the amount of money spent and the number of frequent flyer miles earned. This ratio is different for almost every card. You can use the miles with an airline, a hotel chain, a rental car company, or a cruise line, depending on the card. Frequent flyer cards also have different partners, so if you are picky about who you fly with or where you stay, do some research before you apply.
Here are some examples of the different types of frequent flyer cards:
The Chase Platinum Travel Plus Visa Card. With this card, you get one mile for every dollar you spend. Its miles can be used to buy plane tickets, hotel rooms, cruises, and rental cars. The miles can also be used with no limits on 250 different airlines. For all of these perks, there is a $29 annual fee for the card.
American Express Blue Sky. Members of this card don't have to pay an annual fee, and they can choose to travel by air, road, sea, or bed. They also get one mile for every dollar they spend. A potential customer can also use their points with any airline, hotel, car rental company, or cruise line. Cardholders also get benefits like personal health insurance while travelling and a guarantee that if a customer wants to return a purchase and the store won't take it back, American Express will pay up to $300 per item. If you ever want to go on vacation, these are good things to have.
After all that, I don't know what else to say to convince you of the value of frequent flyer cards. Well, actually, I'd like to say that if you want to leave your own little plot of land, you're going to have to spend a lot more than the smart people with frequent flyer cards.
