Are you shocked when you see how much you spend on your home every month? Every month, it seems like the costs go up. If you find yourself in this situation, try these five suggestions before your extra money adds up to a large amount.
- Don't throw away those junk letters.
You probably get at least a dozen or more letters from direct mailing companies every month. Some of these letters only have one side printed on them. Put all of these letters together to make a writing pad. You can also print draughts of documents on them. You not only save money, but you also save a lot of trees.
- Put a water-saving kit in the cistern of your toilet.
Most of the time, more water is used to flush the toilet than is needed. By putting a water-saving kit in the cistern, you can save up to three gallons of water per month.
- Put the fan on
Use the fan whenever you can. Your utility bill is mostly made up of the cost of running your air conditioner. By using the fan, you not only save money on your power bill, but you also help your body get used to being hot. During the hot summer months, you are much less likely to get heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Don't get rid of that old bar of soap just yet.
As you use soap every day to wash your hands, the bar will get smaller and smaller until it is almost too small to use. Stick the old bar of soap to the new one instead of throwing it away. Just make sure that both pieces are wet before you stick them together.
- Split the toothpaste tube in half.
When you can't get any more toothpaste out of the tube, you can just cut it in half. There is still enough toothpaste for a large family to use for a couple more days. If you only live with your partner or by yourself, the extra toothpaste could last up to five days or even longer.
Start doing these good things right away and make them a part of your daily life. You'll be happy to see that your household costs start to go down little by little over time.
